Hi, i have 1989 268 sundancer, im a recent widow, took to shop had spinal changed, and oil changed, was supposed to be water ready, shop was sold, so son did on the side while shop being sold , i have the alpha 1, water is coming in the back of boat fast as i put it in the water the bilge is pumping it out constantly. My bellos look fine. Its hard to see where excatly its pooring in. Its up top in back of boat. I found my timing chain cover loose under engine and a big bracket that goes around a bigger hose id think. Can you tell me what to check? From the work i had done ? It did not leak or poor in before the spindal change. Thanks if you mite have a suggestion for me to pinpoint it. As soon as i am putting it in water its pooring in from back of boat. Arghh im very frustrated i can t seem to pinpoint it. Im sure they left something off...

The large bellows and the shift bellows have to be sealed with Mercury's Bellows adhesive if not they might leak; this sounds like it could be the problem (maybe they only did part of the job) also the water pump hose might not be connected. This is more a MerCruiser post but I've worked on MC and was careful to follow procedures.

Welcome to iboats

Spinal changed?
A loose Timing Chain Cover would be sending Oil, not water into the bilge.
When the shop worked on it they probably drained the Block, possibly any Power Steering Cooler and did not reinstall the Plugs in , to insure any water remaining would drain when the boat was being transported

I went for the repair faults first but yes there are block drain plugs and frost plugs that could be leaking. Is this happening on muffs or sitting in the water?

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... The best way to find yer leak, is to back it into the water, then take pictures from various angles of where you think it's leakin',.....
With a gusher like that, it shouldn't be to tough to locate,......

What spinal, or spindal was replaced,..??

That makes sense. Do they have to unhook those by chance to change the spindel? I found one bracket loose that looks like it woukd fit a big bello?? Once i get pin pointed i can fix... is the watrr pump hose a few inches wide? That would make sense too.. im getting boat of storage today to look at it and FIX.. Thanks for info. Yes its a MC

Waiting patiently.
Hope you get some good pictures.
As stated, with a gusher like that, it should be easy to locate.

It coming in thru the alpha drive..im gonna put muffs n the sea water plunger water thing on and crank it up. If no water comes in from thise... then it is just coming in when boat is in water which would mean?? I need to check bellows right?? Yikes... im a recent widow and a diy gal.. but googling helps alot.. its just frustrating cause I took to the shop.. was supposed to be water ready... last time before i patked the trailer and came back a lady hollered your pumping lots of water out . I seen it gushing in..like in the middle of ? Transom piece?? inside part of alpha drive somewheres . Really i know more about old corvettes than my boat. I get re educated every year on my boat.....i really want to use it alot this summer.. yikes..
