What do you do if there is no dock near ramp. The lake that I boat at has docks but not right next to the launch. I can drive boat to dock, tie up, walk back over pull out rig. But retrieval seems like it would be "hairy." My family too has lost all interest in boating I want to try and get out a couple more times.

Exactly my problems!! If you figure this scenario out well, please post! (Either getting your family more interested or the solo launch retrieval). Idling it on the trailer while hopping out seems workable, but I question the safety.

Yea, that's what I was thinking. I guess you would have to leave it a little shallow, pull onto trailer, jump off and winch up?

Sheesh! Had a dream last night about the wheels coming off the boat trailer. WTF? I'm definitely thinking maybe I NEED better meds

When you are putting it back on the trailer, if you don't want to power it up on the trailer to make sure it sticks, then just raise the motor up a bit and leave it in forward gear and idling. That will keep it held against the trailer bunks until you can climb out and attach the bow hook. I can't think of a way this could be a safety issue unless you were in some horribly rough water trying to do it, and even in that situation it would still be a freak accident for something to go that wrong. Just remember to climb back in the boat, power off, and raise the motor, before cranking it the rest of the way onto the trailer.

I have been boating all my life and 47years old-and can go solo with my smaller boat but... I am trying to learn how to solo launch & retrieve on my Wellcraft- 26ft 7,000lbs- bow is 7 feet high on trailer. I have a thread in Trailer section.

I had a freaky dream 15 years ago that I was at my favorite floating restaurant/ bar " Little Pete's" enjoying my evening and my LoneStar sank at the dock with only the nose above water.
Since then I always keep a sharp eye on either boat when I'm there.
