Re: Gun control challenge...

Never ends does it? The US's right to bear arms was written under the pretense of "protection", not protection from wild animals, but protection from government, specifically our own. I am an avid hunter, but will never use the argument that firearms for hunting are ok while others are not, there's no place for this argument, it just clouds the issue. Our founding fathers did not proclaim the right to bear arms because they were all starving and couldn't kill a turkey with a rock, they did it because they were under the control of the British (taxation without representation). The intention was that the people have the ability to protect themselves from a gov't gone sour, in the 1700's it was a musket, today that won't get the job done, so yes we should have the right to bear any arm necessary for our protection - That was the intention. Does every houshold need an F16 in the garage? I doubt it, 100,000,000 rifles, shotguns and pistols will probably be sufficient. I'm not a gun crazed nut, only own hunting style firearms, but I do know some nuts who have no business with a gun. The problem with crime is people and I don't have the answer for that.

Troll,

You are saying that since handguns are designed to kill people, then they should be banned. I agree in the perfect world. In the imperfect world they have the additional purpose of equalization. The criminal is also afraid of breaking into a "Bears" den if you will. Do you want to go poking around in a potential bears lair? None of us would mind breaking into a kitty cat's den. A criminal with a gun or a large criminal will have little to fear when his prey is detoothed and declawed. The criminal lobby would be praying" please ban guns, please ban guns". I respect your opinion. This is an exchange of ideas. Convince me.

As was stated many times, guns don't kill people, people kill people. Kids finding their dads gun! Kids playing with dads gun, hot heads on the highway, Husbands shooting their wifes, shooting their neigbours, shooting their kids (mistaken idenity) You don't need gun control, sounds like every thing is just wonderfull.

GF,

True, those things happen, unfortunately so.

However, the numbers of these incidents are paltry in comparison to the number of children (and others) killed by other "accidents". Those including; poisoning, auto. accidents (not buckled in), bicycle accidents, pedestrian accidents and the list goes on and on. :(

The point is, you cannot legislate intellegence or morality and I get tired of others telling me that you can. Let's face it, our societies are different. There is nothing wrong with that.

I will never again criticize someone else' society , unless they become a threat to our soveriegnty.

We must always remember that the finger can be pointed both ways.

Plain and Simple "People kill People" Guns, Cars, Knives, Rocks, Pipe Bombs, Air Bags, Water, Bats, and I know of a case of a person stabed with an Icecicle!

Aggression is more prevalent now than it has ever been. The so called experts say that spanking a child promotes aggression. This is crap. Now days with parents so scared to disicpline their children the old fashioned boot in the pants is what is promoting aggression.

Growing up I feared my parents because I hate pain. Since I didn't like pain on my butt, I listened and minded my parents 95% of the time. Even in the animal world, the parent snips at its offspring to teach it right and wrong. Society as a whole that has removed the ability to raise children this way has created this problem. Children of today fear nothing or nobody. They have no value for life, so its no wonder why there are drive by shootings. I was taught NO means NO. Nowdays it is okay to argue with the parent until you get your way, so NO doesn't mean crap.

I'll keep my guns, and plan to get more. I have taught my children that when your mad at someone, the gun is the last thing to think about. They know and have seen in real life what a high powered rifle will do. The TV and Media has hurt the real aspects of firearms. Movies where hundreds of rounds are shot and nobody gets killed? They send out the wrong message to those that don't know guns. Those that don't know guns only see what they see on TV and DON'T know what their real potential is.

Loss of gun control is when they pry your cold dead fingers from around it.

Have several guns /pistols/rifles/shotguns none are registered and never will be. :)

If you want my guns, you'd better pack a lunch and bring a lot of people (many will not make it out).

As far as assualt rifles, the Govt. makes their own definition of assualt rifle. If they want to ban it, they add it to that category. Less Govt, more of my own control and destiny.

Pistols,....over my dead body will I give them up. I have a right to bear arms, and will until the day I die.

Call me a REDNECK TEXAN, I don't care, don't touch my guns unless you're invited!

I have to say that you guys sound like very responsible gun owners. Your comments and willingness to slap leather whenever someone mentions gun control have convinced me that gun control is a waste of time and a figment of some ones imagination.

Re: Gun control challenge...

In an above post, the topic of children being killed came up.

We probably have MORE kids die here in Texas from their stupid parents leaving them in the car during the middle of summer. Should be ban cars too?????

I have many guns. All are either locked away from my children, or ammo is not available. I have some loaded pistols close by, but they are in locked cases that have a lock that is designed to fit my hand. I can get in it in a matter of 1-2 seconds. I have yet to have anyone, even other adults get in it. Their hands don't "fit" the lock mechanism. Best $20 I've spent.

Don't create new laws, enforce the ones we have!

KeltonKrew,
I agree 100% My whole family owns guns. My dad and grandfather carry them with them. Only time my dad will not carry it is when he go's somewere he will be drinking. About 3 years ago my grandfather was in the middle of a coner store robbery, pulled his guy out had the guys lay on the ground and held them till the police came, More good comes from bearing the arms then bad.

11

Hmmm, interesting. I never carry a gun, but the times I'd wished I had one with me are times I WAS drinking... so take that with a grain of salt (and some lime) :D

Handguns, like long guns, are designed to inflict damage on a target selected by the user or to intimidate a threatening person into withdrawal or concession.

My handguns have inflicted much damage on tin cans and paper targets, some damage on varmints attempting to violate my property or stock, won me 2 turkeys and bought me a reputation as someone not to be messed with in terms of violating my territory.

My long guns have fed me and protected my property from unwelcome wildlife.

If my guns were designed to kill people, so were my chainsaw and sledgehammer.

City folk are too funny with their aping of liberal propaganda. :)

Re: Gun control challenge...

If you think guns or assault rifles in particular are dangerous consider that the worst mass murder in America that I know of was done not with a hand gun or AK-47, but with a grudge, a can of gasoline and a match, I refer to the Happy Land Social Club in the Bronx. One man murdered 87 people, and there wasn't one do gooder, anti-gunner, or politician who came out and demanded that we restrict the sale of gas, or require a 3 day waiting period to purchase it, or restrict the sale of matches, or that gas be limited to 2 gallons per can. BUT, let one lunitic shoot someone and the do gooders, anti-gunners, and politicians come crawling out of the woodwork demanding more useless and barely
enforced anti-gun legislation. The NRA has it right, "simply enforce the laws on the books". And never forget that the states with right-to-carry laws have lower crime rates. The fear of you being armed helps keep the scum away. Australia outlawed and confiscated guns and the crime rate sky-rocketed. Final comment, "If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns".

Sadly, very sadly, what messed up the statistics for the "anti's" was some lunatics using Boeings as weapons.

Being able to carry a guy is great, The prolbem is a lot of people who have earned the right to carry a gun only do when they go out drinking, Drinking and carrying a guy is the same as drinking and driveing they do not mix.

11

Ahoy, Ryan T.

You have my vote on that. Mixing gunpowder and alcohol is at least as dangerous as mixing gasoling and alcohol, particularly for those who get mean when under the influence.

I gotta yuk when I hear the anti's rant about "assault weapons". One of my favorite toys is a .22cal. plinker. It's a Calico M100. If you're now familiar with it,allow me.It's semi-automatic rifle with a pistol grip, folding stock and a quick-change magazine that holds 100 rounds of long rifle ammo. It's not an assualt weapon, just an all day plinker.

Have a nice day and check your six,

Hooty

alright all you gun toting crazies out there, we all know who you are now, and when things get real bad, all the wussfooters are coming to stay in your basements'! lol :D

i don't have a handgun, but like shooting them. you guys have totally convinced me of the danger in having restrictions on types of guns now. someone might overdo it on the regulated-guns part, and want all magazine fed rifles too.

hooty, after 11mos i finally figured out what "C6" meant....

Re: Gun control challenge...

Show me the data showing that most people who have the permit to carry a gun only carry it when they go out drinking.

That statement is ludicrous (sp)!!!

There is a lot of data showing that states that have carry permits, have lower crime. That most shootings are not from the responsible ones carrying, but the criminals that will have them whether they are against the law or not.
