Why do so many people ask 'Is this boat worth this much?' or 'Is this a good boat?' How the heck would we know! We aren't there to see it, hear it, feel it, etc.

Sometimes I just want to say to these people, 'Why are you taking up forum space with this? If YOU think it's worth it, then it is.' Are they looking for justification for there emotional purchase? Or do they want to be able to say to the wife; 'The guys on the forum say it's a good deal'

My note to all those who want to know if the boat they found in someone's backyard/craigslist/pennysaver/NickelAds/ebay/classifieds/etc., is this: If YOU want the boat, and YOU think it's worth the money YOu want to spend, then buy it.

Or am I just be crotchety?

You're just be crotchety.

If they thought the boat was worth the money they wanted to spend, they would buy it. The reason they're asking the question is because they're hoping to apply the knowledge of some other people to their purchasing decision.

I do find the ones that only say something like "I can get a boat with a busted outdrive free - should I take it?" kind of funny. You would think they could comprehend that it would make a big difference in the decision depending on whether they're talking about a 2010 Cobalt or something from 1970 with an OMC stringer ....

Beefer, I'm with you on this one 100%.

I don't have a crystal ball. I don't know your finances. I don't know your likes and dislikes. I don't know your abilities or the environment where you will be boating.

A boat like a car or truck, is very much a personal preference. What is ideal or beautiful to me may be unsuitable or ghastly to another. To each his/her own.

How fast will my truck go while pulling my boat? I dont know the prop size.
Is a 17' v drive with a supercharged 454 on alcohol a good choice for deep sea fishing?

The only way it could be better is if it was a 454 bored and stroked on nitro-methane. Buy it!! Check the prop size first though.

Conversely, even in my short time here I've seen guys ask that question and be told that the stringer drive on it is a bad idea. Or "Ayuh, that motor is going to be hard to find parts for".

May be annoying but it's far from useless.
