grinding noise in reverse 78 merc 175

goes in gear ok, but when i advance throttle<br />i hear a grinding noise and engine revs up<br />motor runs great in forward

Maybe nothing more than shift linkage. Disconect shift cable and see if it shifts o-k buy hand. If it does, it's adjustment. If not, it's probably the clutch dogs.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty
