I bought this 18' it has 260hp 350 small block merc(chevy) with merc outdrive for $1500.I am new to this style of boat as I just sold my first boat and it was alot less boat.I have a bunch of questions and this seems to be a friendly and informative site.for starters what model baja is this,and what type of outdrive is this?I know its merc. but alpha 1?bravo 1?I'm psyched I've been told I got this for a steal,just curious?(I will try to post pics now)can't post pics...will try later

My wild guess is a 186 Sport. Closed bow, 2 buckets and a bench, low windshield, and through hulls?

Yeah, probably a 186 if it's a mid-to-late 80's rig.
It would have an alpha 1 drive if it's 1986 or newer, before that it's the pre-alpha (called the "MR" drive). Bravo's are used mostly on big blocks (330 HP -and above- 454's).

$1500 sounds like a nice find <IF> it's in decent mechanical shape.

Hey guys,
It's been a long and drawn out winter but it is finally starting to break.yes rndn,I do have a little more info at this time.the name plte says "baja 190 TO sportjet".I'm going to try to post pics.It seems to be mechanically sound.I do have a few issues,bad blower,bilge pump doesn't work and have no up on my tilt/trim.I got the tilt/trim issue nailed down and i'm waiting to purchase new accessories till I have it in the water this year and i have no major issues with anything big.the guy that used to own it changed the oil by unscrewig drain plug and letting oil drip into bilge.i've got some cleaning to dowell here come the pics, I can't wait to hear more from you guys!! oh yeah boat is 1983.

boat has mcm260 ser.#6356454 alpha 1 (i have been told).
what is the "sportjet" in the model ,does that mean this is not the original type of drive for this boat?

There was a jet drive offered that year. I only see 190 TC not TO models made in 1983. It is possible someone changed out the jet drive and replaced it with an Alpha 1. Unless you're shallow water river running you don't want a jet drive anyway. It loses about 30% of the HP as compared to an Alpha outdrive.
