Re: gotta be kidding!

the fact that there was a previous disruption in<br />this mall involving the same tee-shirt speaks<br />volumes to me JB. thank you :) <br />did not have this knowledge when I posted this.<br />furthermore, did these 2 folks have prior knowledge <br />of this event and purposely push it?<br />I felt that if a few odd folks cruising the mall<br />didn't like the tee-shirts and these guys were<br />arrested for it, it would be similar to being<br />asked to remove a patriotic/opposite tee-shirt.<br />anyways, it's not the particular case we are really<br />talking about, it's the principle.. freedom of speech<br />means you won't always like what you hear!<br />this is the motivation for the origional post.<br />leave it to the media to distort/take advantage<br />of this strong feeling.<br />thanks for all replys!<br />regards,<br />M.Y.

Re: gotta be kidding!

Bottom line is this.<br />These guys were ask to leave for whatever reason and they didn't, so they got arrested.<br />Sure maybe someone did not like their t-shirts and said something to the Macy people.<br />Maybe they were causing a disturbance.<br />Don't matter. <br />If they were ask to leave, they should have instead of trying to prove a point, for which they got what they wanted, "More attention."<br />My personal feelings on this is, if you don't support our troops and President, then leave.<br />Just reminds me of all the draft dodgers there were when it came time to go to Viet-nam.

Re: gotta be kidding!

Lets forget what the shirts said. What if it was two young men dressed in full gang colors. To me it's the same thing that has a potential to get ugly quick. We go through this at school and even with a dress code there are still things that leave room for doubt. We have to take a lot of clothing and decide on a case by case basis whether or not it adhers to the dress code and depending upon which administrator actually is making the decision a student will be free to wear it or forced to change even if that means having to call for clothes or go home. Refusal to do this will result in disiplinary actions that can include arrest for "Disturbing School" which is a broad based charge which covers a student not doing something reasonable they were asked to do like pick up a piece of paper they dropped. The fact is no matter who made the decision and why they were the ones who could say this is not something we allow here. They then asked the persons to remove/change out of the clothing that was in question and then when the persons refused they asked them to leave. It was then that a law was broken by the persons refusing to leave. Whether anyone feels these people had a moral obligation to do what they did or not they did not have the legal right to do it. I have found out a lot about how the law views things versus how we percieve them to be and have been a lot more cautious about how I personally handle my classroom dicipline (mainly how I write my office referals) because recently instead of the school handling things the law has been asked to take over.
