RAV4's have certainly changed over the years since they came out.

That's our next car. Like the fact we can use it locally with electric only and then use it on trips.

Just make sure you do run it on gas occasionally. It may force you to do that anyway automatically. For us, we will use it once a month for long trips so it will go through at least one full tank a month.

The wife is very good about using gas, electric, hybrid and charge mode - have not tried the trail switch yet The funny thing is we hear about people putting fuel in it once every 6 months.

The wife ran the battery out the other day just to see what happens and the transition to hybrid was flawless (she did see a message on her dash) and no feel in the power change. In the winter months it will use the engine more due to the heat needed.

We have done our homework with this one ;) You should also check out the facebook group - allot of good information is exchanged there

You can beat me up for this, but I hate to see Americans drooling over some other country's products when we have so many domestic choices available. Especially when spending tens of thousands of hard earned American dollars.

Yeah, I know some of these are made and serviced here, but ultimately the profits go overseas.

Beat me up for this too, if you want....
Fossle fuels are most likely used to produce the bulk of electricity needed to charge that vehicle. So, it's not very green.

Yeah, I know there are some foreign components in my American Chevy, but at least it's an American vehicle. Researched and developed here and the profits stay here.

The production and later disposal of the batteries used in those vehicles is by no way green either.

I choose to support our economy as much as I can. I will only spend big bucks on American based products when and if possible.

Oh, many of the most recent gasoline engines have improvements like active fuel management and get amazing fuel mileage.

That's a whole new industry that is getting started...recycling of the Lithium batteries. Not going to be the big bugaboo that certain people are making of it that are against EVs.

As far as buying The Toyota over a one made by US owned company...if they made a car that had the specs of the RAV4 prime, I would buy it.

Personally, that would be too long for me of course the gas sits in my boat even longer in the off season.

I just read this news...
California asking residents not to charge their electric cars to prevent strain on the already inadequate electric grid.
Nice!

They want everyone to drive electric vehicles.

Not only is the EV technology really not fully there yet, but the electric grid can't even handle the few EV's that are presently in service.

What happens when they get what they want... everyone driving electric vehicles?
Can you spell B-L-A-C-K-O-U-T?

You sure you don't mean Texas? They are the ones with the inadequate power grid.

Actually, what you just said was completely false

Total power for air conditioning use far surpasses the amount used for charging cars.

As far as electric vehicle charging, There are plenty of papers that show we have excess capacity in the evening when people charge their cars. There are already smart meters that give you cheaper rates at night and electric cars can be programmed to charge during the cheaper rates.

Of course there will always be the flip phone people that deny the future.

I only pointed out what I read and you did the same. Which is true? Who knows?
The point is that if every vehicle was EV, as they seem to want it, then I believe we would have a serious problem.
There are too many selfish people. They will charge their EV whenever they want, day or night. They don't care. After all, they need to get where they want to go.
We are just not ready for it at this point. Technology is just not up to the task yet.

Kinda funny in a lot of forums...when someone talks about a new EV or an EV that they just bought, people like you come on and start saying the world is gong to end and the grid is going to fail.

What does this have anything to do with Bob's Rav4 that he just bought?

What's with people that have such a hard time with EVs? It's like a religion with some people to just put out the hate.

EVs are the future...not just here but world wide...get used to it.

Read my lips The Rav4 Prime is a gas engine/hybrid/and plug in electric!

AND ..... I am installing a Level 2 charger that will be programmed to only charge off peak - this will even report that back to our power company.

Bottom line

I have a happy wife ;)

The problem is two fold.

The biggest one is that Toyota is not an American company. You're giving profits to a foreign company. And all while our country is in terrible economic condition. Beat me up for being patriotic.
And don't give me that bs about the jobs created here. Those jobs would still be filled if all our cars were American. The demand is the same.

The second is the electricity has to come from somewhere. It doesn't just magically come out of a receptacle in your garage. The members here are smarter than that, but there are a lot ignorant people out there that think this.
Those batteries have to be manufactured and later disposed of. Neither of which is eco friendly.
How long do those batteries last?
What will it cost to replace them?
How much did that Rav4 cost out the door? Probably more than my Chevy.
I'm not hating anybody, just trying to support my country.
Good luck

I'm liking the new Genesis GV60. It's not available yet and the price is likely going to be out of my reach, but I'm a fan so far. (y) :)

I wasn't around in 1908 but I have heard stories that when the Model T came out, there were people that said it would never be bought by the masses and that the horse and buggy was just fine.

My guess...a lot of these curmudgeons now may come around...of course they are likely still holding onto their flip phones.
