Huh....I used monel without any issues...
Maybe it was the brand or duty rating of the staples?

well, there are 5 basic grades of Monel, and although it is more chemically resistant than most grades of stainless, Monel is typically is more brittle than stainless and softer when formed. ironically, Monel is harder than stainless when it comes to milling operations.
my engine alignment tool is made out of Monel 400 (just because we had a scrap bar laying in the shop) was a real PITA when trying to turn it on the laithe.

The staples used in the job have 3/16" legs, have a 5/16" crown and the wire is not as thick as the thickness of two staples in my Swingline stapler at work, which have 3/16" legs and a 1/2" crown. They do seem fairly strong and don't bend easily.

I just checked the staples I used... Arrow "T-50" Heavy Duty Monel. These have a 3/8" crown and 5/16" depth. I used a cheap ACE Hardware manual stapler. A few did not go in all the way, but like Flores said, just tap them in w/ a hammer.. I used these when cobering my deck w/ Nautolex. The edges did not glue well and the staples solved the issue. I would do my best to get the shop to fix what they should have done right to begin with...

Good Luck...
