Re: Good Boat names

If I were single, my Scarab would be named: "Gotta Pair?" referring to a pair of you know what, but then a graphic would show a pair in a hand of poker. It could be clutched with some gruesome looking hands.

I think this would be a good name for a high performance boat that can back up the tough talk and can be seen making poker runs and such.

But, my Scarab is dual purpose, with one purpose being that it entertains the kids, so we went with "Relentless".

Neiderknot (pronounced need er not)

Whether I needed it or not, I bought the boat.

Re: Good Boat names

A lot of the time it is the story behind the name that makes the name unique. Our boat name is Blessings. The story behind it is when we were looking for a boat, I saw a couple of Rinkers that I like. I would joke with my wife that it would be fun to own a Rinker because I could tell everyone that I have a big Rinker. Well we ended up buying a 24' Rinker and my wife insisted on naming it Blessings. 99% of the people who asked about it got the "it is a blessing the we could afford and get it" line but the real line she says is "Daddy's big Rinker is momma's blessing";) So the the name is Blessings.

I remember a story about a guy and he named his boat "on the jobsite" or something of that nature. Everytime his wife called, he would tell her he was on the jobsite.

We have a 1986 Formula Cabin cruiser which is my pride and joy. But every time something wears out or breaks I grumble "Nothin New". A friend of mine over heard me saying this and thought it was a good name. So that has been the name ever since. "Nothin New"

Re: Good Boat names

yep, yer gonna have to come up with your own idea. seems most folks name their boat for something that's special or relevant to them...

fwiw.

grandads pontoon was the belle dora.... dora was his side of the family's 1st inital of the last names... i thought it was good... even had a pendent (flag) made up and the 'o' had crossed anchors in it...

my buddies on his third boat. 1st it was nauti bouy, then nauti bouy too, and now joanns three nauti bouys, referring to his wife, him, and his two dogs.

another buddy called his reds green. which i like too. but i'm a red green fan. but that wasn't his reasoning for the name. my buddy has red hair and his boat is white/green...

my boat is lime time. my boat is white w/ a lime green hardtop and lime green interior. it seemed a natural that when i'm out boating that it's lime time....

good luck in your naming of your vessel and don't forget to christen her after ya name her...

Re: Good Boat names

One of ours is The Flying Pig, as named by the previous owner. They had lived in Maryland and had a beater van, but they kept telling people they were going to drive to Florida, sell the van, and pick up a nice sloop. To which everyone said "when pigs fly". Well when they got to Florida, they realized how ridiculously cheap boats are, and did just that. So the boat has been The Flying Pig ever since.

I restored my 1972 33 silverton behind the shop where i work. I went out every break time to work on it(15 min at a time) so the name had to be "Break Time".

Wife and I bought our first boat together this year. Both of us are fanatics when it comes to water sports. Funataical seemed only appropriate.

Re: Good Boat names

There are so many good ones here! Just came up with one while reading this thread for our bowrider that we run mostly on a river that gets pretty shallow -- "Rock Hunter"

The little plywood rundown runabout-- "Splinter".
We use that mostly to get from the house to the road in the years that our yard and driveway go underwater.

The newly acquired 14' Gaycraft runabout to replace " Splinter" is going to be "Ferry".

Re: Good Boat names

My brother's boat is similar: "Service Call'. Is he available to come out and fix *whatever*? Sorry...he's on a Service Call...

My 40' Carver is "Stick's Competition" - Stick refers to my wife (talls and slender). It's her only competition...
