So, I just got in to lobstering and need some lights for my boat. It is a 12 foot long arancia inflatable, so there are no solid points for lights. I wanted to know if anyone thinks red/green/white glowsticks tied to the ropes woule be legal in california.

Time for you to take a Safe Boating coarse.........you'd be able to answer your own question.

To save you the trouble, glow sticks are of insufficient strength, height and prescribed arc of visibility to conform to USCG regulations. :)

Those wouldn't be legal anyplace. There are certain degrees of view, and distances they must be seen at.

AND--You need to do research! There ARE lights made specifically for inflatables. The base glues on (just as if it were a patch) and the battery powered light plugs into it.

Thanks for your help guys. I have seen the patch-on lights, but didn't want to put anything on the boat and also save money.
