GLM manifold quality issues

Anyone out there thinking of buying GLM manifolds and risers be warned! I seem to be another victim of GLM quality problems with their cast iron manifolds. First problem is that the 2 plugs directly on top of the manifold are not inserted far enough into the manifold for the riser to sit completely flat. I'll have to go out and buy a 14mm hex socket ( have to buy a whole set, can't find one by itself) and a tap to clean out the threads just to correct this problem. Second problem is one the GLM rep brought to my attention, the water jacket rectangular openings are uneven (see pics), I don't know if that is a big deal but he brought it up so I guess it could be. And the third problem which has been brought up on alot these posts, is that the mating surfaces are not flat. I checked mine with a straight edge and they look ok but I may not know for sure if it is right or not. If you do buy some, get them from an authorized distributor, I got mine from someone on ebay and GLM won't warranty them so hopefully the seller will take them back. If he won't I will drop his name so y'all can steer clear!
Sorry, can't figure out how to shrink my pics to make them upload!

This is why I only buy OEM manifolds and risers.

Re: GLM manifold quality issues

Anyone know where I can get a log style to vertical style conversion kit with all the parts needed, except not with GLM manifolds?

This is for an MCM-260 V8.

Erik

Edit: I probably should ask this in a new thread, but this is what I always think of when someone brings up the GLM manifolds... I've been planning on getting the conversion kit this spring.

Well, experience is the best teacher I guess! I went with GLM because I got the manifolds and risers for a little more( about $40) than just the oem risers alone at a local marine engine parts store. Who doesn't want to save a few bucks, cuz when you own an old boat, $ flies out of your wallet! Plus I bought them before I read all these wonderful posts by happy GLM manifold buyers! Oh well, I'm late for my 3rd job, gotta go...

As long as the ports are open its fine. As for your 14mm Hex. I'd like to see these things. My risers clear the one it hangs over by about 3/4 of an inch. Any good tool shop should be able to sell you a single allen wrench for your plug.

Re: GLM manifold quality issues

I took pics of my wonderful GLM's but can't get them to upload (too many kb's) and I tried to reformat them to no avail, must be my camera? I'll keep trying, in the meantime... The plugs sit up so high that when you sit a riser on it, it lifts up one side a good 1/8 inch gap. I'm getting tired of running around looking for tools I shouldn't have to buy to fix it. Good news is the guy I bought them from is sending me new ones that are supposed to be corrected so we will see...GLM must stand for Got Lousy Manifolds!
