Gimbal Bearing noise

Had my Gimbal bearing replaced on my 99' Bravo 2 in the spring. Had aprrox. 3 tsp of water in the area, u-joints were o.k. could not find a leak- however less than 60 days later the same noise is back. A friend/ mechanic? says it sounds like the bearing is dry- if I can get grease into the bearing am I safe to finish out the year before re-pulling the drive? Or if there is water intrusion does that ruin the bearing that fast?

Thanks,

Joe

Re: Gimbal Bearing noise

yeah, once water washes all the grease out of the bearing she's a gonner, especially if it's making noise. If it's making noise the bearings, the races or both have been rust pitted and will soon fail. You could pump a bunch of grease in there and hope to finish the season at the possible expense of ruining another part.
If your new bearing failed that quick you either have a tear in your u-joint bellows or the bellows aren't tight, or haven't been installed using adhesive.

I wounder if they greased the bearing when it was changed. It should not go out that quick.
