Re: gears engage but prop doesent spin nothing works

First off the model number you gave is for a 1983 50HP Evinrude. You may have a different cover.

There is no shear pin on the motor. It is a through hub exhaust. The propeller has an inner and outer hub with a rubber grommet designed to give when something is hit and protect the gears.

It is likely that time and heat have worn the grommet down and it needs to be replaced.

At this late date in the season, and with good prices available here at iboats on replacement props, I think I would consider a new prop.

If you want to check the propeller to see if it has in fact slipped, or spun as they say, you can make a mark on the outer hub, using the cotter pin as a pointer, run the motor and see if the mark moves in relationship to the cotter pin.

Take the prop off and examine it and you should find a part number.
