Winterizing. DEALER sold me gear oil that I now find does not seem to meet specs??

XPS Marine - high performance - gear lube SAE marine. Meets GL 5
recommended for use in VOLVO and OMC from 1978. NO MENTION of either SYNTHETIC or SAE 75W 90

I have half L of quicksilver merc high performance which says NOTHING about SAE 90 or any other spec (dated 2019). Can I add .44 L of this to top up or should I leave it down .44 L over the winter? Drain and refill in the spring.

Q: OR Is it ok to leave the drive .5 L short of what it should take over the freezing cold winter
Drain and refill next year??

Driving me nuts. Last day at cottage- Thanks!

First year with 3L volvo Penta boat

Thought so. So how to proceed?

Unable to buy the right stuff (have to close tomorrow) so I have to
1) Leave it 3/4 full of non synth GL 5 or
2) top up with non GL5 possibly SAE 90

Any last thoughts?
Thanks!!

Top it off now and get right gear oil and address before you use it

Have changed SX-A gear oil for winter. Dealer sold me wrong oil - and not enough of it. I will drain/change in the Spring,

Q: Should I top up with merc high performance I have left over,,,,, or leave it down about half a L over the frozen Canadian winter?

What is in there now is GL5 non synthetic mystery weight XPS gear oil

If you are not going to use the drive until next year, you could leave the wrong oil in there until next spring then replace it with the proper lube. Just make sure that you do not leave the oil that you used this year in there, just in case there is water inside.
