gas tank yunk

I own a mako 23 1987 mode, I keep geting my water separetor clog with what it seems to be particles of realy soft rubber like melt isulation color black, I have replace the hose that run from tank to water separetor and I get same results. has any body had this problem before or know what its causing it

run you tank as low as you can. then open the fuel sender, tilt the bow as high as you can get it.. using small hose that will go thru transom drain, siphon out the rest of the gas, then clean as best you can, dispose of rags etc properly, and they can be a fire hazard.

Could easily be the big fill hose deteriorating. I would replace the fill and vent hoses and see if that takes care of the problem. (Doing the siphoning of the gas as mentioned above as well).

There are two "IFs" here. IF you have a fiberglass (not plastic) fuel tank, and IF you are using ethanol blended fuel (gasahol as it's called in some areas), you may be experiencing degradation of the tank -- specifically the ethanol is reacting with the resin used in construction of the tank. Unfortuanately, there is no fix except replacement of the tank. Analysis is required by a shop familiar with the issue. Keep in mind that many shops have undertrained techs that siimply point to ethanol as the cause of all problems they don't understand or can't quickly diagnose.

its a aluminum tank, I guest that I need to emty the tank like tasshasdaddy sugested and replace the fill hose and brether hose, after all is a 21 year old hull so I don't think is goin to hurt eny, thaks for the info.

Boston Whalers had a problem with the fuel tanks, they had degradation of the material and have since changed the material. Check over on the ContiniousWave whaler site. Do a search and I am sure you will several posts concering about the same problem. I don't recall a black substance, so your problem coiuld very well be the fill/vent hoses.
Make sure you disconnect and remove your batteries before you open up the fuel tank. Fumes are what causes the explosion, not the liquid gas.
