i have a 1985 sunray with 3.0l omc engine. stern drive has been replaced . not sure with what. anyways. my wiring is a rats nest. and i am wondering. the fuse to my start key is getting hot. also there are no fuses except another one that is installed on a thick red wire to my panel of switches. am i to assume that i will need to redo all the wiring here? or can i buy a fuse block and go from there? if a pic is needed please let me know. thank you all in advance.

Since you re-wired a camper, I'm assuming you understand wire current capacity and fuse/circuit breaker requirements....
My '07 pontoon boat was a rats nest also even though I'm sure it is simpler than yours. I was surprised how the factory did it....
I can only say what I did.
Basically, the factory ran multiple power wires and ground wires all over the place to supply the switches and accessories. I installed separate power/ ground blocks which removed a lot of that wiring. This let me re-wire my switches with power/ground jumpers, like modern setups, with only one wire supplying power and ground to these switches and accessories. It let me add a battery master and stereo switch easily. My switches used resettable breakers so I stayed with that set-up. My hot feed has the inline fuse which worked fine, so I left it. I guess you need to re-evaluate yours as to wire size and load.
My gauges use a factory mercury harness plug-ins and the standard key switch power, so they were left as is.

My Toon rewire was pretty simple. I used a 9 space terminal block to connect console to boat.
