Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.

If and mind you I say "IF" the motor only needed something along the lines of a hone and a re-ring that would be a good price for a 235 HP outboard. Not that I'm the guy willing to take that risk.

This guy is an extremist. He's going from an overpowered disguised 235hp on a 150hp rated boat to an underpowered trolling motor?????

Here is one, He has to sell it for "Medical Bills" for his special needs daughter. But then says "He will trade for guns". Also the line in there that says, he has a signed title in hand, which means, he probably bought it, and never titled it in his name, probably signed by PO?78 IMP Cuddy cabin 23'

"Need this to pay for special needs daughters medical bills. She is my world and comes before everything to me and I need to provide for her far more than I need this boat."

His daughter comes before everything except "some partial trades for bang bangs"

lol

Only if you want a $250 used trailer.

I see great potential. Better to buy a cheap boat because you know it's going to need to be restored then to buy a boat for $3,000+ then find out floor is shot, stringers are shot now you are in way deeper than its even worth.

Well, yeah, it might be a better deal then the same rig for $2K+. But the Force wouldn't be my 1st choice either.

Great deal if he is paying me $250 to take his 400lb force anchor, and rotten bayliner to the dump

So when your all done you have a so - so trailer out of the deal.

This is a steal if he has the paperwork

1987 18'.6" bayliner

I don't care for force or bayliner either, but for someone with little funds, and lots of time to dream of boating in there driveway. I don't think they would care and this would make a awesome first boat if they have some skills.

Not especially funny, but pretty cool:

danish modern botved coronet 18 hardtop sedan boat

danishboat.jpg

Really long description:

I have a 1960 Coronet 18 foot Hardtop Sedan in very good restorable condition for sale in Belmont NY.
Comes with the original trailer with two new tires
This boat was made in 1960 in Denmark
It has a very early Volvo Penta B16A motor 80hp
and Early Volvo penta outdrive in it.
An original boat that I have not got running since I bought it a few years back.
The engine block has a hairline crack at the freeze plugs.
the outdrive has patent pending on it.
All original parts are on the boat except
a light on the fiberglass roof.
Windshield retracts into roof for access to bow deck and is in good condition.
All wood floor and deck items are present and in solid shape.
Gas tank has old smelly gas in it.
I have a second tank that comes with the boat.
There are two (2) Volvo engines and one or two out drives that come with the boat.
One of the engins is a running unit and is the 100 hp motor
A video on the history of Coronet boats also included.
The boat sits and a very well built trailer, no title but not a problem because of it's age.
Two of the four tires and rims were just replaced, (7/23/13).
Over all the trim wood is in good refinishable condtion with all pieces present.
Minor repairs at starboard rear floor will have to be fixed.
transom is sound.

HISTORY OF THIS COOL BOAT
1960 - Aquamatic out drive success
The bold gamble of the Aquamatic inboard outboard drive system succeeded, mainly as a result of the hard work that had been put into setting up joint ventures with boat builders during the 1950s.
Botveds Boats, a Danish boatbuilder, was the first company to invest in the Aquamatic in its newly designed boat, the Coronet.
The Coronet opened up the US market and, by the mid-1960s, success was guaranteed.
The Aquamatic was the first really big product during the 1960s, the second major breakthrough in Penta's history
The first outboard poewered boat to cross the Atlantic ocean was a Cornet similar to this boat.
Coronet's were built in Denmark by Botved Boats from the 50's through to the 80's. The first Coronet to hit British shores was the GRP-sheathed timber 22 Explorer in 1963. The 24 made a big impact proving itself in several offshore powerboat races. The Oceanfarer was first imported around 1969.

The Danes are well-known for their carpentry skills and quality (Eg. Bang & Olufsen) and the Coronet is no exception. The hull is a substantial layup of fibreglass which is immensely strong making the boat probably more capable than her crew of taking severe conditions. The teak and mahogany woodwork throughout is of a high quality and skilled joinery can be found inside the cabinets as well as outside! The design obviously has its roots in the 1960's but it stands the passing of time retaining its character without looking dated.

In 1974, the Fairline 32 Phantom was a very similar design and together with a strong Danish Krone made the Oceanfarer less attractive to UK buyers. They introduced the 32 Deepsea to the UK in 1975 but sales fell and in the late 70's Botved Boats ran into financial difficulties, and the company changed hands several times. I have seen a photograph of a Scandinavian owned 1985 Coronet 32 Oceanfarer Wing in a boat magazine but do not think any made in into the UK. That feature also stated that Botved Boats still exists but they do not build boats any longer ...

The following is an excerpt from a Coronet Sales Brochure:-

'A Coronet is hand-made - by specialists, who work meticulously. Look around the boat and you will realize that such a finish is rare today. But turn the inside out and you will find precision work also in places normally out of sight. That is what Coronet calls quality. Look at the way, gas tanks are secured - look at the fittings and metal details, or at the way, wooden items are made. Lift any hatch or lid and look at the reverse side. Please inspect the boat carefully and make comparisons, if you like. There will still be things, which are impossible to inspect, e.g. the fiberglass construction, which is laid up by hand, using matting, cloth and woven roving - with all joints and overlappings of double thickness - with a stringer system moulded into the bottom, connected to the reinforced transom by heavy knees. Balsa wood and plywood is moulded into the deck and superstructure for rigidity and insulation. All plywood used fulfills the requirements of W.B.P. - it can be boiled for 72 hours without delaminating. The seaworthiness of the deep Vee hulls is proven second to none by the thousands of Coronets, which have for years been operating around the world, either as pleasure boats or for commercial use. The exterior and interior design is Danish. It is functional and characterized by good taste - and good taste is never outdated. Based on these facts, Coronet has obtained an international reputation as Europe's leading manufacturer of family fiberglass powerboats. Not because they have built a bigger number of boats than others, but because the quality, the craftsmanship and the design of the boats are something in a class of its own.

"To convince customers that fiberglass was a solid material, Botved
came up with the idea, to cross the atlantic in one of his boats. A 22
foot explorer was chosen for the trip. It was mounted with twin
Johnson 50hp engines, which enabled the boat a top speed of 26 knots.
Along on the ride was Jim Wynne, an experienced raceboat driver.
The trip was made possible, as they sailed along with a merchant ship
the whole way. The merchant ship carryed all the fuel for the trip,
and served as a safe haven in case of to rough weather.
The trip was experiencing rough weather almost all the way with swells
reaching hights of up to 30 feet, in the storms the coronet was lifted
abord the merchant ship, and the lowerd into the ocean when weather
allowed it.
It took in all 11 days to complete the 3600 nautical mile journey, and
even thoug many people would not reconize the journey, it was used as
a theme in Coronets marketing strategy for many years to come."

Wow, this guy destryed this boat. Bolting the trollling motor on there greatly diminished the value. Plus he says the fading on the gel coat is "only natural" after all these years. Thats strange, because I've have boats from the 70's that had wonderful paint jobs, but that means you have to actually take care of it! Also, that motor is a pre '77 model. I wonder hoe he toasted that original engine? These things really get under my skin lol. Especially with the faded gel coat thing, plus I've always had a thing for Checkmates.
