Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.

Here's a goody, 16' boat with a 9.9hp outboard...
Obviously a scam as the boat is registered in PA and advertised in Las Vegas, NV.
Pic's are NOT in Las Vegas.

(sorry for the side scroll thing, the whole add is linked to a web address)

Edit: Got it smaller, but maybe too small . . . QC

These same pictures....entire ad but with different e-mail add. has been working CL for months in my area!!

Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.

I tend to look at craigslist pretty much daily looking for repairable boats I can fix and resell. Lately I've began using "CraigsList Helper" as it helps me sort through ads all around me.

Some of the ads are hillarious, some are born out of ignorance, and some well I have no idea what they are doing.

I get a feeling a few weeks after these funny ads come out, a few funny threads begin to appear at Iboats, on how to fiberglass or restore a totally gutted boat, or how to get that non-working Johnson motor running, or how to figure out the wiring in the boat chewed up by the crocodiles....

That motor looks like one that was for sale on the Jersey Shore list here for about a year. It smelled like rat urine and was laying on the floor there. The guy wanted $400. It was covered in dirt and cob webs laying in the corner of a garage. It smelled so bad I had figured something crawled in a died.

The guy told me it had ran perfect in 1964 or so when he took it off and laid it there. He kept repeating how he turned down $3500 from some guy down south because he didn't want to be bothered with shipping.

It was stored in a wooden shed along with sacks of animal feed which were attracting rats, so my take was that the motor was their home for quite some time. The guy also made a point of not letting me pull the cover or stand the motor up for some reason.
The attitude was 'There it is, it's perfect, just pay me and get it out of here', he got offended that I wouldn't take his word that it ran fine. I had driven over an hour to get there, was in shock when the motor he had looked nothing like the one he had pictured, he had obviously either doctored the pics or used a pic from the web.
When I went to leave he followed me back to my truck repeating how I'll never get another deal like that again. In part of his sales pitch he said that so many people have come out to look at it and told him it was junk just to get a deal on it, but he knew better than to fall for that!

I wasn't sure if he was serious or just putting on a sales pitch. I got the impression he was serious and just didn't realize what a load it was. To him, it was as good as the day it was made, maybe better in his mind.

It was one of those instances where I wasn't sure if I was mad as hell for wasting the drive or just entertained by the whole thing. All I knew was that I had to leave before I said something really insulting or just plain started to laugh out loud.

Now, ya gotta love how standoff-ish this guy is. Hey, don't waste his time! Ya hear me, DO NOT WASTE HIS TIME! BWAHAHAHAHA! Get yer keester there by no later than Friday and give him 700 bucks! Ya hear me? :p

The last picture is definitely going to sell this boat! :D

It's a good thing he makes a special bullet point in CAPS to explain it is a project and needs work. I mean, barring that information, you might expect it to be turn-key ready!

28' Regal Commodore (Salvage) - $700 (Sharon Hill, PA)

1988 Regal Commodore 280.
This boat sank October 6th, was salvaged the same day and has been in dry dock since.
It sank due to a hole in the port outdrive bellows.
It's a twin I/O. The Mercruiser engines most likely need to be replaced. They were not pickled.
New risers, manifolds and water pumps were installed in September.
They may still be good.
THIS IS A PROJECT BOAT AND NEEDS WORK!
This boat needs to go by this friday.
The pictures here are taken of the boat in September.
It was submerged in fresh water and is dirty.
The hull has no holes.
Do not waste my time if you are not willing to buy this boat and move it by this friday.
I have no trailer for it. It's up to you to trailer it.
It's 28' long, 10' wide and about 8000 pounds.
$700 is the asking price, but will consider best offer.
Boat is sold as is with no refunds, returns or exchanges.
Like I said. Don't waste my time.
Boat has to go by this Friday.

That one gets my respect for being more honest than anyone else on craigs list.

His name is randy.... he sold the boat repeatedly and been jerked around by buyer after buyer. All the while the shop where it sets is charging him $80/day storage:eek: .... I'm leaving tomarrow evening to pick it up and I'll post pics when I get back..... This will end up belonging to a friend of mine who is gonna restore it and if by chance the engines and drives can be saved (ie not frozen and busted) I'll freshen them up and put in my montecarlo.

Definitely worth a $700 gamble, IMO.

Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.

This one has nothing to do with a boat - but I laughed when I read it....on kijiji (no photos on it yet)

I have a V6 Chrysler Cirrus Lxi , wanted to trade for a sled. The car still runs, I did hit a deer with the car so needs new hood, driver side fender front bumper 2, probably new radiator also, auto shop priced me less then 600 for the parts.i was going to fix it but bought another car instead. The car still drove after the deer, until the cops pulled me over ILL TAKE SOME PICS OF IT AND POST SOON

I just found it funny how he would trade it for a sled and "oh yeah, I hit a deer.... no problem!! " I seriously doubt the parts can be had for that little, let alone labour if you can't do the work on your own... (most people cannot)

This is listed rather mildly as a "Fixer Upper"
I hope it is a joke. Here is the ad as posted.

Boat for sale Mercrusier powered (Cape Coral)

"My mother's, cousin's, son's, daddy said it ran really good when he took it off of the boat .... ten years ago .... before the mice built a nest in it .... before the fire in the garage .... before the guy down the street took it completely apart to restore it, but ended up with a box full of parts that he couldn't figure out."

"No haggling over price! This is a classic and I know what I have here! No one is going to get over on me!"

Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.

well i pulled my tlc needed engines today and after draining a few gallons of clean water along with a few quarts of milky white sludge from the oil pan and adding fresh oil and filters I have the first running..... carries 60 psi oil pressure at 750 rpm cold and 50 psi when warm (160 on guage)... will work on the second tomarrow.... then will run both on a hose for about 30 minutes and change oil again.... then another 30 minutes and keep changing until not milky.... thanks for posting that one up even if you never thought any good would come of it

Here is one. It is not really a TLC add, but sometimes I wonder how much effort people put into writing "novels". I also love the "Smurf Blue Runabout":

http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/yrk/boa/1526685170.html

Here is the full add:

Smurf Blue Runabout - $1000 (Keswick)

My old man would like to sell his old runabout.

I painted it smurf blue when I was six.

I can't remember how much horse power the outboard motor has, but if it's not enough for you we have a few motors lying around the garage.

My dad filled the hull with spray foam so that it would float like an aquasport even if it capsized or was cut in half.

Then he bought an aquasport because he wanted a small cabin cruiser for his retirement.

Personally, I would like to keep it and drive it myself, but he's intent on selling it. He says it's too choppy on the water - but that "a young kid could use it on a river, for example, to skip across to the convenience store and back - it would be perfect for that". Keep in a mind, a young kid is probably anyone under 35 to him so don't hesitate to write even if you no longer consider yourself young.

Oh yah. A fishfinder (works!) and royal blue trailer (perfect!) is included.

Also, it's right across the street from a river, and just down the street from a bunch of marinas. I could help you get sorted out with a slip if you needed that kind of assistance.

Umm, what else? The running lights work (I mean, the boat is really in perfect condition for what it is), and there are enough seats for four people - that's including the captain.

I might convince him to throw in some free lifejackets too. Heck, there's no one to fit the child sized ones anymore and they're pretty much brand new.

Please email me at the link above to arrange a look or a springtime seatrial.

(I'm placing this ad now cause it's part of what he requested for xmas, see item "help emptying out the garage" - seriously.)

That's ONE-THOUSAND-DOLLARS for an entire boating kit, as soon as the ice comes off the lake.

[I've had a request for pictures, I do not have current pictures available at the moment, but will post them when they become available. These ones are from 20 years ago. That's my old man at the bow, and then that's me sitting on the right in the other photo. The boat still looks pretty much the same except we swapped the bucket seats for the foam reclining kind. I found a picture of the type of seat too. Enjoy!]
