I'm rebuilding my 5.7L carb motor (cracked block). I have found a vortec block that I want to bolt my existing heads, manifold, and carb to. Will I have to replace the fuel pump from a mechanical pump to an electrical pump?

What did your old engine originally have? Just reuse all your old accessories. Everything should fit nicely.

Mechanical fuel pump, but don't the vortec engines have an electrical fuel pump? If so; is there a mouthing location for a mechanical fuel pump on a block that came out of a vehicle with an electric fuel pump?

Your new block may not be machined for a mechanical pump. If not, you will have to use an electrical pump. If you do, here is how it needs to be hooked up so it won't run all the time when the engine is not running and the switch is on. It's a safety devise for electric fuel pumps.

The rules posted above said, if you have a new question. Start a new thread. My original question was regarding to the compatibility of a new block with existing heads. New question was about whether or not I'll need a new fuel pump to rebuild the motor.

sorry if I broke the rules.

Ayuh,... It's All about yer motor swap, 'n the issues yer gonna see...
If you post a thread for each issue,...
Nobody'll know what yer talking about...
If you run a thread about the Swap Job, you only have to post the pertinent info once, instead of in each thread, 'n it saves a ton of Confusion on everybody's part...

The block swap is what perceptated the fuel pump issue...

Merc mounts the fuel pump, 'n fuel filter right down on the block near the same place as the mechanical, on a bracket..
