I have a 1990 merc 115, went out today for the first time this year........4 mile run out to fishing area.....ran fine....disconnected fuel line and hooked it up to the kicker motor, trolled for 6 hrs....switched back to main motor fired right up idled for a little bit....sped up to about 3/4 throttle for about 1 min, died like it was running out of fuel hit the primer bulb ran fine, had to use primer bulb to get back in, got back to the harbor idled through the channel like nothing was ever wrong. Do I replace the pump or look for something else. I have no fuel leaks when I pump up the primer all the connections look good.

Also with the earmuffs on how high can you rev it up, I would like to try this in the driveway before going back to the lake.

Thanks in advance, all opinions appreciated.

Re: fuel pump or not???

symptoms point to Fuel pump.Remove and inspect diaphram etc.A fairly easy job.
Not good to over rev motor on muffs as no resistance. Most motors 1500 tops, although my manual says 2000-2500 when flushing for 5 min but i dont go over 1500rpm.
