Well I just changed the original one on my 04 4.3 GXI-E. Only reason is because its never been changed. And to my eyes it still looked good. What are your thoughts?

If it isn't broke don't fix it, is my motto
Unless something looks real bad, then only way to know if it doesn't work is to test it

The screen is only one part of that regulator. Screen isn't too bad, which shows that your fuel pump most likely isn't chipping a lot of paint.

The other part is actually regulating pressure in the fuel rails is my understanding. If pressure is good and you are not seeing any performance issues, you're probably good.

That said, I have ordered two replacements and am just waiting for them. I had a horrible paint chipping issue though.
