Fuel line replacement questions

I am in the process of replacing my old fuel lines on my 1985 Johnson 30 hp and have a few questions.

1) I'm trying to figure out what brand fuel line assembly to get. I've seen lines from Sierra, Moeller, Attwood and Seasense. Is there one that seems to be preferred over the others?

2) I'm also wanting to replace all the hoses associated with the fuel pump, carburetor and primer system. Is there a good source for the fuel lines under the cowling? A couple of the lines are non-standard (5/32")

3) For clamping down the hoses do I need a special tool to install the tie clamps like the manual suggests?

4) The only filter the fuel system has is a screen on the fuel pump. Should I be running an inline fuel filter?

Thanks for the help. Sorry for all the questions. As a budding outboard mechanic (by necessity) I'm full of them.

Re: Fuel line replacement questions

The new fuel lines available in 2011 are even different from a few years ago. There has been a price adjustment accordingly. Bombardier dealers can provide you with the correct 2011 hoses. Some hoses on that engine are sold in bulk (by the foot.) In some cases, there may be special hoses under the cowling that make hard bends. The latter hoses are heat formed so they don't restrict fuel when bending around the corner. Those are sold by part number. Bombardier's tywrap clamps can lose their clamp load after many years. They now sell plastic clamps of various sizes. These are easy to use and are re-useable should you ever have to take anything apart for repair or cleaning. Most of these older engines had only that screen filter at the pump. Personally, I prefer to add a secondary white plastic inline filter from your local Bombardier dealer. You can see an exploded diagram of all the parts on your engine on the web: epc.brp.com (including the fuel system.)

Re: Fuel line replacement questions

Thanks for the response. So I guess I'm better off going to a local dealer than trying to find the right stuff online. I was able to look at the parts diagram but couldn't find where to purchase the hoses.
