Hi,

I have a 2007 Kayot Z201

Mercruiser 5.0L Carb serial 0W672003

I'm new, so I have been reading up on general maintenance, and i've learned how to change out the canister style fuel filter that is located right next to the fuel pump at the bottom left part of the engine (looking towards back of boat).

My question is, since this cannister style fuel filter in contained within another black plastic canister...is this considered an "in line" fuel filter?

Or, is this fuel filter a "fuel/water seperator"?

And, if it is an inline fuel filter...does my mercruiser 5.0 have a "fuel/water seperator" in addition, somewhere else that I haven't been able to locate...or is this canister style fuel filter basically it?

Thanks and sorry for the newbie questions.

It is a water separating fuel filter. The black plastic cover is only there to make the job more difficult. The canister inside is the filter.

The new engine mounted raw water pumps are such a joy to work on. The cool fuel behind the motor mount was also a fun one.

They are a pain, anyone ever try moving the pump to make it easier?

You can't. It's part of the cooling system water line, and too many fuel lines and electrical wires to make it possible...

Good one Don S! I laughed so hard my 17 year old daughter interrupted her Xbox session in the other part of the house to see if I was having a stroke
