Hello everyone, I have a 1992 Yamaha 40 MSHQ which I’ve been going through the carburetors. I need to replace the seat valves but they won’t budge. I can see where attempts have been made because the hex heads are a little damaged. But I can still get a socket on them and with a lot of pressure and keeping it straight I’m not rounding them off they just will not budge. I’m sure corrosion is part of it. I have a propane torch and a heat gun. But I want to do this as safe as possible (I’m afraid of melting the aluminum) I’m considering boiling for a bit then trying to loosen. Any ideas or thoughts are greatly appreciated. I wouldn’t have gotten this far if it wasn’t for this Forum. Here is a pic of what they look like. All three are stuck.

Maybe try some of that Freeze-Off spray from Advanced Auto that uses very cold blast of co2 to loosen bolts, fasteners, etc.

Afraid I’ll get it to hot. I know once I get the feel for it probably won’t bother me to use a torch. It’s getting past that first time I guess. I’ve seen it done and the was completely comfortable with what he was doing while telling me how easy it is to melt.
Never thought of freezing. Didn’t know they made this product and if it doesn’t work I didn’t ruin a carburetor.
Thanks much for the reply’s I always appreciate it.

So the long soak in thinner helped nothing ? Personally wouldn't use heat, carbs are delicate and NLA. Try Freeze Off Spray as suggested or send them back to the machine shop. Plan to replace just the wider one or all 3 ?

I’m going a head with all three since they’ve probably never been removed and have o rings on the bottom that are probably shot. Looks like everything will be new except the nozzles which I micro polished inside and out. Freeze spray didn’t work so I took them in this evening. He said no problem be ready tomorrow.

Good to count with an excellent machine shop to do the fine work, not an issue running carbs with many new parts along old noozles, as long are immaculate clean will work spotless.

He got them out no problem. The soaking did help he said. No heat needed he just had the right tools. Ive had to take a break and deal with some other life happenings . Hope to get back at finishing in the next couple days.
