Not great with outboards so this question might be a simple one. I have a 1973 Mercury 4hp.. Recently replaced the impeller because there was no water being pushed through the system. Got it running and water is coming out of bottom rear of the engine from a small port (the water is coming out like a spray with air, not a stream). On the left bottom side of the engine is another small port that says "fresh water flush" (which just air is coming out). Any idea what the fresh water flush is for and also should the water coming out of the bottom rear be more of a stream then the spray I have, or is the spray normal? Thanks in advance

Re: fresh water flush???

i've got a '81 40HP blue band and it is doing the same thing, is there any water puddling in the bottom of the cowl, if so it could be a split hose - mine is!:(

Re: fresh water flush???

split hose? Im guessing its the hose that goes to that side "fresh water flush" right? When I replaced the bottom end I saw the copper tube from the water pump housing that brought the water to the top. But I dont know how the water is collected, circulated through the engine, and then expelled. Is the hose you're talking about just collecting the water up top?? and if so where is that hose coming from? Thanks for the reply
