hows the best way to know for sure if your boat is a cap and hull, or a hull and floor set up

You could put a 1/4" aluminum saddle plate over that transom and get another 10 yrs. out of it!

To find out if you have a cap or cap and liner, clean all that junk out of the boat and look for the bottom of the cap on the inside of the boat. If you can't find the bottom of the cap you either have a liner/tub or you haven't cleaned out enough junk.

I've got all the crap out of it I think I'm going to have to take the rub rail off to be able to tell

I'm pretty sure thats a hull and liner, not a cap.

Thers still going to be a seam behind the rubrail channel.

PSSSssst... Cut down some tree branches, cover up the boat, put it behind the shed and get back to it later when the other half isn't around.

Well it's a real good thing she thinks "free" boats don't cost any money eh?!

I'll have to have a little talk with the lovely Mrs. H the next time I see her...

I'm a firm believer in doing what ever ti is that makes you happy. If you don't have a project, and your looking for one , well fix er up. If you have other projects to strip er down scrap er out, and get your other projects done. But really, what ever floats your boat.

my problem is old boats are like stray dogs I seem to want to take them all in and save them. this little boat is so unusual to me. the floation is above the deck its under the raised bow in the front, and under to like stern corner pods I quess you would call them. another very unusual thing is the transom and the back say 30 percent of the deck and stringers are beyond rotton, they are mud. but from that part of the boat forward its all solid as a rock, I quess that's from the foam being above the deck, I think it must have sat with water in the back and tiltied bow up and with no foam to wick water forward everything forward stayed dry

Congrats on figuring out what donor boats are good for. Salvage all useful parts for a nice Tinny and scrap the hull.:watermelon:

So wearing the proper PPE isn't overrated? ... and waiting for the weather to cool down so you're comfortable in that PPE is pure foolishness? I don't understand, I thought working with fiberglass was like working with cotton candy? :cheer2:
