Re: four banger volvo wont start up and run

Ill look around for one. Id prefer to not spend all this time trying to get it to run just to have it fill my exhaust and head with water because its not there. thanks

If you find a cheap one, let me know. I posted a thread about the flapper just a couple days ago when mine broke off on Sunday. I've taken it out once already without it, but if I can find a cheap replacement I'd slap it on. Cheapest so far is ebay at $250.

Nice to hear you got it running! The shop must not have had all the timing marks right. Follow the book for adjusting the tensioner, and if you need a new one, rockauto had a dirt cheap timing belt and tensioner kit for volvo cars that I used on my boat. i think my tensioner spring was a little old and weak, so I gave it a little extra push when I went to tighten down the nut on the pulley.
But I'm wondering how the belt could be walking? The cam and crank pulleys both have large side flanges so it's not like the belt can walk itself right off.

Re: four banger volvo wont start up and run

I am haveing ZERO luck with anything. replaced the accelerator pump diaphram, cleaned to carb but still nothing. wont try to do anything with gasoline. Carb cleaner makes it run for a second but gas will do nothing. ether is the same....will try but not for long. Im out of options and ideas and think it may be time to spend an hour labor at a marine mechanic shop for diagnosis and see what they say and if im missing something obvious. Ive never gotten whooped like this!!!

not sure if you tried this already but my aq125a was doing the same thing and i had spark and fuel, and i figured out by taking it to a boat shop that even though you have spark you still have to adjust your points and if you set them where they are supposed to be set and still nothing try moving them slightly closer (to compensate for wear) im getting electronic ignition kits for my boat im sick of points. hope this helps
