Re: forward is reverse on my 74 70hp johnson?

Oh my. I was looking at the gearcase diagrams at shop2.evinrude.com , and it appears that there were 2 different hydro-mechanical gearcases on a 1975 70 HP. One looks like the 1974 model, and the other one is different. You would have to know the model number of the 1975 motor to tell for sure, but one may be mechanically reversed from the other. BUT, there is only one remote control listed for 1975.....now I'm confused also.

after looking at the linkage on the power heads on the two motors
theres a difference between the the two
I will post pics in a little bit
I believe the 74 linkage has to go with the 74 lower because it sifts opposite of the 75

and the 75 has to go with the 75 lower

The engine linkage is different so that the same remote control can shift either drive. One shift rod is up for rorward gear the other is down for forward gear. If you switch the engine linkage to go with the drive, either will work.
