ford prestolite solenoid for johnson outboard

HELP,i am putting a new starter and solenoid on my 45 hp johnson outboard,changing from manuel start.what does the i and s stand for on the small connectors of a ford prestolite solenoid ?which goes to ground and which goes to ignition switch?any help would be greatly appreciated.Howard.

You should be using a BRP solenoid.

First off it's not marine rated, don't use it. The "s" terminal energizes it and "I " gets hot when activeated. The "I" went to the coil on automotive apps. Won't work on an outboard. Get the proper solenoid.
