I don't know the year. Have used the motor in the past and no problems. Getting ready to take it out this weekend and got it started and it was running. Turned it off. Tried again 10 minutes later and nothing. It is not even trying to start. Any suggestions would be great.

Re: Force 40 won't start or even try to start

Update...

Got it to try to start. Cranks but doesn't turn over. Noticed that the starter (gear) turns and jumps to grab the bigger gear but not every time. Sometimes the starter just spins. Also, after trying this many times, we noticed the connection at the battery was hot and starting to smoke.

Even when the starter grabs the bigger gear, it won't turn over.

Be sure all connections are clean and tight don't forget all the grounds .Spray some lube on the starter bendix.

I had this problem!!!

Remove the starter
Turn it upside down
Spray some PB Blaster into the Bendix drive shaft while someone else is moving it up and down (this sounds easier that it actually is)
This will (should) get any debris and small metal "crumbs" from binding.
Clean the PB off, turn it right side up and shoot a LITTLE wd40 or similar onto the shaft - DO NOT GREASE IT!!!

Re-assemble with ALL connections, including battery, good and tight.
