Force 125 88’ won’t run

Hey guys so the boat starts but it bucks and does little pops. I’ve done the lync and sync again but still no luck maybe bad trigger?
Says it idles at 3-4 and surges between that

I was messing with the idle screw on carbs and it turned in but would stall so I was like **** it I dumped the throttle and it went. And didn’t stall but I have to dump the thing or it stalls and stalls in neutral. I’m thinking the trigger is bad cuz it was pinging really bad on throttle but that’s **** freaking flys dude it was a blast haha

So I hooked up the timing gun while it’s running it’s at tdc idling as I start to increase the throttle just about 5% it stays close to tdc and then it shutters but stays on but while it’s doing that no marks line up with the block mark. Like nothing near it at all could it be the trigger or is that a stator thing?

Glad you made it back! lol. Timing is set at WOT (in gear) only.....timing at idle will be whatever it is.....doesn't matter what the idle timing is so no need to check it. The trigger and stator problem is above my pay grade.....somebody else may have an answer.

Nordan seems like he’s mad at my stupidity though :( but if course I’ll take any help and I do appreciate everyone’s time and help. If anyone’s near the Bay Area I’ll take you fishing once it runs good.

Not at all. I Think you mix me up with racerone.
Set the timing by follow FrankA:s sticker in the top of this forum.
As topgun3690 says you time these engine at WOT, the timing at idle will be what it will be.
Set the idle speed by the screw at the timing tower.
1200rpm on muffs in gear or 6-750 rpm in water and in gear which is the right way to set it.
I do not think you have any issues with the stator or the triggers as it seams to run properly at higher rpm.
The stator charge the capacitors in the CDI boxes and the triggers gives signal to the CDI boxes to dump the voltage in the capacitors in to the ignition coils at right time and to the right coil.

Ok I’ll get my self some muffs and try timing again. Also I don’t think I can get the idle below 3000 but I haven’t tried in gear. And I’m assuming you mean in gear but at the minimum speed rpms And ya I did mix you up with racerone sorry I was just looking at previous threads and saw your name. I have a similar problem as a thread I saw but can’t seem to find it anymore. For it to get in gear and not die have have to dump the shifter. Is that just due to timing?

Many linkages on these motors simply do not go out of adjustment.---Unless they are molested by a newby owner.----So here we are.-----Sorry to be blunt here.

I did what @topgun3690 said to screw idle screw in till lightly seated then out 1-1/4 they are both set to that. But the lower carb screw is very messed up. I have the picture in here somewhere.
So I should by water muffs and time it at full throttle at 30d. While it’s on right. My only problem is I have to dump the throttle so it doesn’t die I can’t ease into the throttle or even normal speed.
Edit. It says 2-3k idle on the cluster but I honestly don’t know if it works

Bro…. I know motors I’ve done plenty of engine swaps and fixed plenty of cars. Now boats I don’t know but i know the basics. :( I didn’t adjust any linkages just disconnect it at the timing tower like the magnificent frank said. Why do you hate me :( I want to be your friend. I am a newb but Ik the basics.

The idle screw is on the bottom of the tower shaft, it rests against the block.
The screws you are talking about are the air fuel mixture screws.
The air fuel mixture screws are set from 1 turn out from lightly seated to about 1,5 turn or even more.
They have to be tune individually, see post by FrankA link and sync.
If the idle mixture screws are set too lean the engine will die when put in gear and it is a combo adjustment with the idle screw.

Ok so try to get idle around 1200 with water muffs does it matter if it’s in gear or not? And to do that I should do lync and sync again. And for the mixture screw if I turn it more then about 2 or more turns it won’t start. Also the way it is set right now I can easily light the black tab on the cam Inbetween the 2 hash marks but even if I turn the screw to the cam side it just bearly doesn’t touch is that ok I heard it should just be resting on the cam.
I’ll do the lync and sync again tomorrow maybe I’m missing something and also recheck timing at wot while running.
