Re: Flotation under floorboards----why there..??
Evening everyone..
JBcurt00---- No problem, my mistake from the get go.. Most everyone by now has figured out I wrote it backwards, i hope.. Pretty good milage I guess, but I'd like to see it higher..
I don't know if I can agree as far as calling your cousins "Appalachian Trail Dream Hike" foolish.. More than likely he had that dream since he was a kid.. As most people do, he married and set that dream aside.. Then came kids and he kept his nose to the grind being a provider.. But that dream is perhaps what kept him going, working 40+ hours a week, day in, day out, for how many years..(??)
Somewhere it starts dawning on a guy that maybe life is beginning to catch up to them physically.. And facing the facts----the "window in time" when they can do that hike---won't be staying open all that much longer.. Some would say it's a "middle age crisis".. But the voices in his head are saying, "It's now or never.." .. I think it takes a bigger man to go for it.. He's covered every contengency to the best of his ability.. He's done the right thing, a good husband, a good provider for his children.. There's nothing wrong with him "living life and chasing a dream", to make it come true.. Fulfilling a part of his destiny--if you will.. ..

All I guess you can do is meet your cousin at the trail head before he starts off, grab him by the shoulders, look him square in the eye and tell him what you feel.. That you don't agree with what he's doing, that he's being selfish thinking only of himself but-----that you admire him, envy him and tell him to keep in touch while he's out there.. Oh, and kick him in the seat of his pants as he heads down the trail and tell him your "behind him every step of the way".. You gotta let him go, man.. Not everyone can let go of their childhood dreams.. .. There's one in every family, I suppose.. Please let me know how he's doing as he's someone I also admire..
73Chrysler----When I first started working on my little boat and how and where to put floatation, my first thought was to go to "Marine Supply" in Bradenton, Fl. and buy various inflatable dock / boat fenders.. Attach them along the gunwales under deck and out of the way.. Various sizes to get under there.. And really big ones in the port and starboard stern quarters.. I very well may end up going that route, thank you for your suggestion.. I do think it would make for a "cleaner, finished look" if I'm able to use the pink and or blue foam enclosed underdeck but, time will tell.. I'm most definately weighing both optins.. Thanks man..
The barrels you used on the River Queen sound brilliant..!! It's all about oxygen that makes things float, no doubt.. God forbid if I ever "go down", but at least I have your knowledge on how to "bring her up" again.. Thank you..
Oh---I added a few photos from this last May 20th, 2013 2nd and 3rd day out from Sarasota to Everglade City.. See improvments to boat since the last (first) photos posted..
