As to be expected there was complete rot. The wood was not laminated together anymore and also not stuck to the fiberglass. What's there is about 3 inch thick. Is that the normal thickness I should have when I redo it
Pray what you see is mildew or mold. I can't count the numbers of times in my boats that foam has soaked up water. Drill into stringer and examine drillings for black rot or water. If any, you probably are going to spend a lot of time grinding and re glassing. If not, plug holes with 5200 and thank God, you caught it in time.I have found a soft spot in the fiberglass on my floor. I have cut the fiberglass back and found rotten plywood. The foam is dry right to the bottom and zero damage to the stringer. Now is that foam supposed to be really light kinda deal as it is
Yeah, that train left the station about 10 posts agoPray what you see is mildew or mold. I can't count the numbers of times in my boats that foam has soaked up water. Total transom rebuild required. Photos appear to be of outside? If so, should go from inside out, not outside in.Here is 2...someone has patched it before in 2 different spots
Looks like its too late for that now!Total transom rebuild required. Photos appear to be of outside? If so, should go from inside out, not outside
Most go from the inside so there is no exterior fiberglass work like fairing and gel coat.you certainly can go from outside in, can paint the outside with automotive type finishes .I didn't think it would make a difference beings it all had to go so the end result would be the same
