Believe it or not but today I was working on my engine (1976 85hp evinrude) and forgetting to take the spark plugs out I tried starting the engine to see if I killed the battery or not from leaving the lights on overnight and as I turned the key and the engine started for half a second and my buddy started screaming and saying he say sparks and flames come from out of the prop? I gotta believe it but has this happened to anyone else?

Yeah this will happen when you run a motor without water, your propeller is part fo your exhaust system, no different than if you disconnected the exhaust of your car at the exhaust manifold, you would see the same thing. Without water flowing out of the prop at the same time it grants the flame open access.

You didn't drink enough beer to cool your exhaust down.

I love the title of the thread. sparks and flames always get my interest. One question though, do you have to drink Corona to put out the fire of Mexican food?

There's a really bad joke there somewhere.

Sounds like it just needs to be run in water at least to preserve the impeller.

My first thought after reading the title was the infamous flaming rectifier, instead it was the unintentional running out of water scenario.

I kinda figured the title would do this LOL but hopefully my impeller isn't to screwed up , well it's time for a new one anyways.
