Why does my fish finder lock up if it is on when I start my engine?

Re: Fish Finder

The electrical current suddenly drawn by the starter plays havoc with marine electronics which are on the same circuit. It's best to isolate your electronics from your starting battery one way or another if you can, if not, power on your equipment sequentially with the problem in mind.

Because the amperage dra that the start drws limits the volts and amps that the finder sees, just like in your car when you have the radio on and start it.
