Re: Fish batter recipes

I finally got a chance to fry up some perch last weekend. I think someone on this thread suggested adding lemon juice to the milk/egg mixture and I also added some paprika to the flour/bread crumbs along with salt, pepper, garlic powder, etc. It was excellent -- thanks for the suggestions!

This guy provided a couple of nice filets.

Absolutely! This is my third season boating and fishing on Lake Michigan and my only regret is that I lived in Chicago for eight years before taking advantage of it!

Thanks! Where in Michigan do you live? Which lake do you boat on? I grew up in Ann Arbor and got to go boating a couple times every summer up on Lake St. Helen and also Portage Lake.

My wife and I are planning a trip across Lake Michigan next weekend to New Buffalo. I may look into getting a non-resident day permit and drop a line in the water while we're there.

Aww, I shed a tear when I saw the old dodge ram emblem spinning.

RIP SBN. You are sorely missed.

I am about an hour north of grand rapids in the tiny village of six lakes. We get onto the big lake through the manistee during the salmon run. We also have a walleye, jumbo perch trip coming up in Sept. We sold our boat last summer, so we are currently between boats..

Re: Fish batter recipes

here is my very simple recipe for frying fish

2 cups flour in a shallow cake pan
2 tablespoons of garlic powder
4 tablespoons of a good quality lemon pepper seasoning
1 cup of milk in a bowl

combine all dry ingredents together
dip fish in milk
flop fish into dry mix to coat
fry in your favourite oil or shortning at 375 degrees for 3 to 5 min
remove and let sit on paper to wick away excess oil
sprinkle a small amount of lemon pepper seasoning for taste and enjoy

this recipe is great for pan fish walleye and bass

Fresh Grouper, cut into one inch chunks, beer battered, deep fried in olive oil.

Just can?t beat that unless one of you northern folks has some of those Morrell mushrooms around that you don?t need.

The two together would really be something.
