Hey guys awesome forum!!! Well I bought a 92 skeeter bass boat, my trolling motor won't run, new batts are in, what is the order I should go in to troubleshoot it, wiring, fuses, charge etc??????
Use a Volt meter, start from the battery and progressively work your way forward on the positive voltage side. You'll probably find an issue with either the battery connection or a fuse. If not, it is likely a grounding problem.
I recently tore apart my 89 tracker to find at least three spots where mice/chipmunks had chewed through the trolling motor wire casings. It may be easier to simply run a new line back to the battery if you cannot easily find your issue.
12 volt, 24 volt, or dual 12/24 volt operation? Do the following in the order listed.
1) Batteries charged
2) Battery connections clean and tight.
3) Circuit breaker or fuse OK -- voltmeter or test light will confirm.
4) Check for power at receptacle -- voltmeter or test light will confirm
5) Check for broken/disconnected/incorrect wiring if #4 is NO!
6) Check troller plug wiring if #4 is Yes.
7) Remove troller cover and check for power at head.
8) Connect ower directly to power leads going down the shaft.
9) If motor does not run in #8 motor has issues. If it does, foot pedal or remote is bad.
