The aurora borealis are a truly spectacular sight. I have seen them when I go up north, up close to the Minnesota / Canadian border, but never quite that large. How far north did you go? The boat is looking good, as usual. :thumb:

We went to Kilpisj?rvi, it's pretty high up north I guess. We can sometimes see them in Helsinki(a 1000km more south than Kilpisj?rvi) as well, but light pollution makes them hard to distinguish. I'll have to check how far up north we were in relation to other countries, never thought of that.

I'll add some sort of ribs yeah, just need to plan the exact spots so they'll not interfere with grab handles and hinges etc. I'm putting gelcoat on one side, so I'm basically hoping it'll do with the glass attached on the inside only. Fingers crossed.

Any way to work the ribs on the back side to also be backers for the grab handles and hinges?

That's a good idea. I wonder what it could be though, wood is out of the question so I guess I'm stuck with foams. That would require double boring the holes for all the different fasteners. But it might be worth it. Fuel for thought. Thanks!

Red, what do you use to cut the lips to their final height you make on the containers and storage areas? Do you use a Dremel type tool with a blade or grinding cutter wheel? :noidea:

The edges are rounded inwards to create this shelf like structure for the wooden horizontal pieces, and I guess I'll be using a Fein multimaster like tool by Dewalt first, and finishing with a DA sander to even the glass out level with the melamine mold.

Red, your work is so intriguing that I have been looking and reading all about how to duplicate your results with the lip builds and the hatch covers. And it is amazing how well you accomplish that work. Seem there are lots of videos and know-to's on the web to show those ideas. You must have been doing such things for a long time. Thank for showing your builds and ideas. :thumb:

Haha, thanks for all the kind words. Almost done with the seat/toilet/steering console molds now.

Red "Almost done with the seat/toilet/steering console molds now ". Sure hope that isn't just one console, but that would be interesting all the same. :pound:

Pain is temporary, fibreglass is forever.

Not much visible progress, been working on a local tv-series the last few weeks. Been at the boat every free moment and now the port side mould has four layers of glass, two to go. It's slow and messy work, the pieces are huge (some of them are approx 3ft x 3ft and so forth) and the space is cramped.

I'll be really happy when the glassing part is over, can't wait to start working on the surfaces...

It'll end up about 1/4 inch thick overall, and the corners with overlap are closer to 1/2 inch. Sure hope that's sturdy enough.

I have to agree with you, Red. Get this glass work out of the way and start with finishing work. I want to see her making a bow wave and wake! :D

What did you use for the head mold? LOL

I keep doing these just to keep my mood up, can't wait! I'm optimistic about getting it in the water this year, still remains to be seen how realistic it is.

Did you get the hatch covers done Gm? Hope they turned out well.

I actually did make them and have yet to poly and CSM them. I was hoping to do that either today or very soon weather permitting. I'll post some pictures in my thread build.
