Fiberglassing Question

Forgive me if I am asking this in the wrong section. I'm new to the forum.

I am building a plywood boat with my boys and I have the hull completely together and am ready to start taping the seams. This may be a dumb question, but I have several gallons of epoxy paint (which is what I plan to finish the boat with) and I noticed that epoxy resin is very expensive. I have no idea what the difference between the two would be.

My question is: Can I use epoxy paint instead of epoxy resin to tape the seams with fiberglass cloth or do I need to use epoxy resin? I'm sorry if it's a dumb question, but in my novice thinking, epoxy is epoxy. I don't want to use it if it's not going to work though. My plan is to put 3 coats of epoxy paint on the whole boat (inside and out).

There are no dumb Q's! The only foolish question is the one that is never asked! You'll have to use epoxy resin (not the paint); they are two completely different animals.

They are not the same thing, you should use epoxy designed for what you plan to do.
