Hello,
I am a fresh water trailer boat guy. In the past, I have always purchased new boats, and they are never in the water more than a long weekend at a time. My last boat, a 1995 Bayliner 2252 cuddy would always wash up with car wash soap and look like new (even after 13 years). I wax it twice a year. At any rate, I sold that and purchased a very nice, clean, fresh water 2000 Four Winns Vista 248 cruiser. This boat was stored in the water for 2 years of its life at a very clean lake in PA (Raystown). The hull looks and feels like new. Here's the problem/question that I don't know about fiberglass. If this boat is in the water for even a long day, it stains a bit and you can't just wash it off. You need to use "Mary Kate on and off" boat cleaner that contains acid. This works perfect but is an extra step in cleaning up! I never ran into this with my other boats. Is this because after being in the water those 2 years, even though you can't see it, the fiberglass is porse and is "absorbing" moisture? Is there a cure for this such as a sealer or wax? Is this something that just happens with fiberglass that was stored in water at a point in its life? Thanks in advance from someone that is not a fiberglass expert!

Re: Fiberglass water line question

hey bud......if ondarvr does not see this in a day or two... pm him.

my guess is that the gellcoat was re sanded. and not buffed enough.

there is wax you can put on. i saw some great stuff at a product demonstration at a local boat manufacturer.

find out from ondarvr first, before you run to the hardwars store for some automotive shine
