Fiberglass toons

I have a 1988 ski cat with fiberglass toons. How do you tell if its gel coat on them? I am wanting to paint them and can ,I paint them any color and what do I paint them with and how is the best way. I can be at lake all day and I will get maybe three or four cups of water out of the toons. Can't find any soft spots under the toons. Or should I take it to a boat place? Thanks for any help with this.

I would use a bottom paint made for boats. Look on the net or boat store for Interlux paint they have been around forever and make great products. The people who sell it will tell you the best way to apply it.
