Fiberglass body filler as Peanut butter!???

Has anyone used this stuff or anything like it to bed stringers and fillet in areas? any pro's? con's?

You'd have to know what it's made out of first, if it's a phenolic resin/epoxy product your polyester resin layups won't bond to it.

They say its a polyester base? Im going to call them in the morning to verify!

It is polyester based, but it's also 50% Talc, which isn't ideal..View attachment Claw_Glas_Filler_501100_MSDS.pdf

Why buy additional material to make PB when you could make your own...

LOL! Sorry! No reason other than its already premixed and I was thinking it might be cheaper? easier to work with?

You will rarely mix EXACTLY how much resin you need. So when you need to make just a little more to finish, mix enough to have some left over to make PB. Once you get the glassing done, mix in cabosil, micro ballons, &/or cut up pieces of CSM........

Or when you've mixed more then you needed, do the same........

You're right, my bad...Still, poly resin and Cabosil are cheap.....And I bet that is more of a fairing compund, than PB.....So it would be baloons and resin..

I would prefer to mix to a consistancy i chose....

Evercoat " Kitty Hair " is about as close to 'PB' as you are going to get with using automotive filler products. It is 30-35% talc according to the MSDS so it is not ideal...http://www.evercoat.com/imgs/msds/100857 Kitty Hair 08-24-2011.pdf

You could buy some empty gallon paint cans and pre mix some PB with Cabosil and resin. Could even use wood flour if you wanted cheap, tho the Cabosil is the more common/ preferred thickener for 'glass boats.. Just mix it a bit thick and do not activate it until you need it.

Ive had good results with Evercoat products...I use them on auto restos...
