I thought some would enjoy this. Had to go before an early a.m. guided fishing trip out of an old, popular marina in Atantic Beach N.C. I was directed to the facilities and found the very small, cramped, smelly, bathroom complete w tiny boatsized toilet! As I enjoyed my brief visit, I thought to myself the old salty Captains and crews must feel right at home using these onshore facilities:D

I prefer the bathrooms at the campgrounds. With all windows open and bugs flying and spiders on the t.p.I have seen some very strange insects while visiting the stalls there.Honestly, i do enjoy them.

That sure beats the old outhouses or better known then as privies. Before indoor plumbing, that was it. Sitting on a cold board in the middle of winter and fumbling through the Sears and Roebuck catalog hanging on a coat hanger. Then hope the wind wasn't blowing the wrong way in the summer time.

Re: Feels like home!

The facilities I referred to were obviously constructed by a traditional wooden fishing or workboat builder like the rest of the old building. It looked just like the heads I've used on older offshore boats I've fished on! I think they make them small to save space, and to let you brace yourself to stand and pee when it's too rough to try to **** off the boat!!! The only thing missing was the hum of the big diesel engine/engines and the tossing about in rough seas!! I had to sit on the thrown that morning and I thought this was great practice If I ever had to do it on an offshore trip! Not had to do that yet, and hope I don't ever!!

Recent remote hunting trip involved no electric or water. The outhouse was unused for 4 months. Each visit we discovered we were far from alone. A long stick and flashlight became std eqpmt.

Outhouses [nostalgic sigh] ... met a family of raccoons one winter in one of those. Well, I should say they introduced themselves to me. Got comfortable, just got the seat warmed up and started noticing a growling noise that I typically didn't associate with "reading the Sears and Roebuck Catalog." Jumped up and looked down ... I think I heard one of the little ones say, "hey Mom, the moon is back again!"
