The plywood on the transom of my 12 foot aluminum Feather Craft is delaminating. I am unsure of the year and model of the boat as the serial # on the stern is unreadable and the data plate is missing. Looking at old ads, I think the boat is a 1969 Feather Craft "Topper". From the looks of it the previous owner had replaced the original transom wood with non-marine grade plywood. Does anybody have a picture of what the original transom wood is supposed to look like?

Re: Feather Craft Transom Wood Replacement

It looks just like that except....
You should use polyester resin and fiberglass cloth to cover the exterior grade plywood. You should also make sure that when ever you drill holes in the wood that you Pre-drill them and then coat the holes and the screws or bolts with resin to ensure that NO water can ever get to the wood. Pay close attention to the edges of the wood when you are fabricating the transom. If you do it right, it will last 50 years.

I'm just sayin...:D
