No offense taken SK :) .. I can only respond to the bold text in your quote. No offense to you ..

Hey YD! Post #93 was a good one. I think we're tracking pretty close to each other. I've got daughters and a son. Both need to "hit a wall" every now and again ... daughters sometimes need a softer wall, but not always

I agree to that they need that ability to begin to forge their own way. In fact, I liked your term "puzzle piece maker in their own life."

the video is obviously a hoax/utube attention getter, but the issue raised is a reality.(most) kids today expect everything for nothing, and when they dont get it , they rebel in one way or another. its a ME ME ME generation. as phoney as the video is, it is art imitating life. jmo

When I was her age you could have blown up a secure underground government facility spanning an entire mountain and not damaged anywhere near that much computer.

Parents are facing new challenges today and having to find new ways to deal with new problems.... Keeping your children safe and under control was hard enough when they talked across the street with radio shack walkie talkies. Now with the internet and prevalence of cell phones, evil is closer than ever before.

What he did was possibly over dramatic but he needed to get her attention and remember he IS human and as such he like ALL humans is flawed. I have seen other forms of tough love first hand and I personally know of a teenage girl who is likely still alive today as a direct result of her mother having her arrested. That gal was 13 yrs old and now has a criminal record. I won't post the details, but again, she IS alive. This pampered gal from the video got off easy and honestly didn't lose anything that she couldn't do just fine without.

LOL :D - I just got to see the computers at Oak Ridge National Lab a few weeks ago. WOW!!!

I actually agree with you on this. In fact, the daughter in this video got off too easy. My contention has been that dad was combative toward his kid ... not parental. Had he turned her in for something illegal, and she went to jail - I think that would have been fine/great/good even! This video was just too sensational, and counter productive.

I'm hanging in on this thread because I think parenting is so critical ... and under-employed in our society today.
