Expensive - or not?

The gearbox on my 1997 Evinrude 90 Special is getting some water contamination in it and needs new seals, etc. The gearbox works perfectly - the seals are just going away. Can somebody give me an idea how much $$ to budget for the repair? (Will probably have the water pump rebuilt, as well)
Thanks!

Are you sending this out or doing it yourself?

If you're going to do this yourself, get an OEM Factory Service Manual.

Re: Expensive - or not?

You're maybe talking $80 for a seal kit and another 2 hrs. for a mechanic to do the job. I was quoted $300 total.

If you go onto UTube, there are videos on how to replace the seals on Yamaha's. I have not checked for your brand.

Service Manuals are the best money you'll ever spend.

Don't be like me and ignore your gear case. My pontoon and Yamaha 115 hp 2 stroke was 26 years old, and used feet are rare. I can buy a new lower unit @ $845 out of Florida. I just bought a Bennington TriToon and a 150 Yamaha to replace it.

Will probably have a shop do the work. Thanks for the ballpark figures, Bamaman1. And, no chances taken here. If it ain't right - it don't go.
