hello all
so it s a 78 1400 sn 5092xxx. problem is i put in new WP and when i took it to the lake for a test, i realized that the tattle tales are not putting out a good flow of water because a lot of exhaust is coming out of them. when i dropped the lower unit it looked like there was some exhaust putty at the junction of the exhaust, know i appreciate it may have been doing more then i anticipated. my question is can there be enough of an exhaust leak there to impede water circulation through the upper engine or is there a bigger problem i need to be looking for. secondly, is there a better fix for the exhaust leak then putty. haven t had any luck finding previous discussions on this, if it's already been done, please point me in the right direction.
thanks

Re: exhaust issues

The exhaust leak is not an issue. it will not affect the flow of cooling water.

You need to be concerned why there is no water pumping thru the motor. When you installed the waterpump cover, did you install the white plastic water tube guide into the water pump water outlet? The end of the copper water tube must be installed into the plastic guide to make sure it is in the right place. Is the seal in the water pump cover water tube outlet intact?

Re: exhaust issues

I did install the white plastic tube between the housing and the tube in the upper unit, the seal may not be intact as I didn't have my manual and put it together the way I thought made sense. My worry about the exhaust is that some water is coming out of the exit holes but at idle the exhaust coming out of those holes turns that water into a fine spray. If I turn up the idle at all the exhaust will increase to the point that no water exits. I do need to check that the water tube is in right and sealed well. But it Was the quantity of exhaust and it spraying the water that mare me think that that was causing the problem. Thanks for all input
