i have an 87 wellcraft with a merc 170 hp 4 cyl inboard with an se106 outdrive. i have been reading all the posts i can trying to learn everything that i can about boats since this is my first real boat, (i always had small 13 foot boats with small outboards for the local lakes and rivers when i was way younger) my question is i hear alot of people talking about exhaust flappers, what are they, what do they do and do i have these on my boat?

Re: exhaust flapper?

Ayuh,... It's a shutter that lives in the down tube which stops backwash water from entering the motor...
