ha ha, funny thing , when i had my motor out and exhaust flappers removed for replacement , i had this thought , i hope nothing falls down there "ill never get it out once the motor is in".
with that thought i taped up the Y pipe so it was sealed , that tape stayed there till the flappers were in place .
good luck , keep us posted on how you get that bit outa there !.
I couldn't tape it until I got it out. It fell during removal. I've got to lift the front of it up so I can grab it with one of my grabber tools. I'll MacGyver something to wedge under it or remove the bellows and grab it from that side. I'll report back!

Push from the bottom, pull from the top?
The long needle nose pliers idea from the outdrive side should provide enough force to move it. From there I'd grab it with my grabber tool. So yes, push from the bottom then pull from the top. Thanks for the input.

The dremel and string photo was a joke. What I did was tape the mechanics grabber tool to the endocamera. After several attempts at bending the camera cable (changing the angle of approach) I was able to hooked it well enough to get it loose. The angle that worked was coming straight down from the top. That angle also meant that I was pulling it up in the "closed" position which caused it to snag easily. I pulled it slowly up until I could see it. Then I got a wire hanger and shaped it to hook through the hole for the pin for a stronger connection. I'm glad that I did cuz the mechanics grabber lost its grip just after that. The coat hanger moved it close enough to grab with long needle nose pliers and finally my fingers! The camera tool made a big difference. Again, thank you for the advice!
